Filip Roca (b 1988) is an independent visual and new media artist based in Barcelona, originally from Montenegro. During the last seven years, he has been working in the field of animation, motion graphics and art direction.
After completing his studies in graphic design and new media at the Metropolitan University of Belgrade, he started to work in animation and post-production studio Fried Pictures where he was involved in art direction and motion graphics.
In 2014 he began to work on his personal projects focusing on architectural video projections, object mapping and live generative visuals. During this period he created various scale projects for a broad range of clients such as Mini, Ford, MTV, FIMG, Hyperdub or Exit Festival.
In 2015 his piece “Nihil Unus” was awarded the first prize in the professional category of the International Mapping Festival in Girona. On the following year, another of his projects “Dislexia” was selected as a finalist for the largest video mapping competition in the world, iMapp 2016 Festival in Bucharest.
During these years, he collaborated and worked with studios like The Macula and Tigrelab. Also in late 2016, he started an audio-visual project called NOTU_URONLINEU with the London-based producer Leon Smart aka Scratcha DVA / DVA Hi Emotions.
Multiverse is anaglyph stereoscopic 3D mapping show that revolves around the theory about parallel and multiple universes. These worlds consist of everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, and the physical laws that describe them, including our own. Multiverse, using the facade of Michna Palace as a starting point, is an abstract journey through the infinite scale of matter, distorted physical laws, and unknown landscapes.
Dislexia is a geometrical abstract piece that revolves around the inability to communicate. Dyslexia, as a communication disorder, is thought to have two types of cause, one related to language processing and another to visual processing.
This piece is covering the antagonism between two sides in a conversation that have no common ground, between opposite sides that fail to truly communicate. As in the real world, the gap between emissary and receptor is frequently disrupted and fails a true dialogue – or peace.
There is no good or bad, just the incapacity of understanding the other’s difference. Will this dialogue meet its purpose?
Dislexia wants to represent this scenario abstractly, through two different visual groups that are opposite to each other by shape, volume, colour, behaviour, sound and physical state. In this chaotic dialogue, first group is presented in blue and white, within its calm, bright and pleasant nature (followed by organic bright and tender sound) while the other group is aggressive, dark, noisy and uncomfortable, presented in red and black ( followed by noisy, distorted synthetic sounds).
iMapp Bucharest 2016, one of the biggest 3D multimedia shows in the world, organized by The Municipality of Bucharest thru creart – The Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest, has announced its shortlist for the third edition of the festival!
iMapp Bucharest stands for video projections on the second largest administrative building in the world, more than 104 projectors used, 23.000 square meters of projection surface, over 2.000.000 ANSI lumens and one huge stage. Each year, in September, the best video artists in the world showcase their work on the façade of the Palace of Parliament, in front of a large audience.
Video mapping uses a complex 3D image, that brings to life the surface of the building by forms and colours, using each architectonic element in order to personalize and reshape the gigantic area of the construction. Thus, the “outline” of the building becomes the main protagonist of a dynamic show of sound, colour, light, a true optical illusion.
The idea is to explore, study, and represent the contradictions and differences in the natural landscape of Catalonia area, and oppose it to the visual aspects of the human mark in it.
Differences between human and nature growth, contradictions in forms, structures, shapes. Following that premise, by presenting each one’s formalization in graphic shapes, we’ll find two opposite worlds and that have been growing together side by side. The goal is to visually represent how they interact, and how the building mapped can express through the projection the contradiction of it’s own structure and the natural elements that surround.
This six-minute long audiovisual artwork is portraying the birth of Palladium. The divine relics, beautiful, modern light jewel. Palladium is related to the Greek word pallas meaning “little maiden.” The sense of a protective talisman comes from the name of a statue of Athena that guarded the city of Troy.

The LEDs were synchronized with the visuals being rear projected on 9 screens above them. The video cover 672m2 of surface. Both sides of the river were mirrored.
